What Is An Aura?
The human aura is an energy
field that surrounds the body. The aura reflects our health,
mental activity and emotional state. It also reflects illness
and disease and it is possible, in some cases, to detect the
illness long before the onset of the symptoms. It is a band
of etheric substance surrounding our physical body that reflects
our seven levels of self. It consists of seven layers, each
layer vibrating at a higher frequency and a little more quickly
than the physical body itself. The further from the physical
body the higher the frequency and the faster the vibration.
The seven layers are as follows:
The Physical body,
is the most tangible manifestation of our consciousness. The
physical body is the one that is in the here and now. It is
the 'body' that is conscious of what we do, sleeping, eating,
walking, etc. It is the 'body' that experiences the fears and
feelings. It is the one that experiences sickness, aging and
death.
The Etheric body, is a thin invisible layer, approx.
2 cm thick, around the physical body. This is where the energy
is reflected when it flows through meridians and chakras. The
etheric body is a double for the physical body and appears as
an energy matrix. It is described in Chinese medicine as meridians
that transmit chi energy through the body. We can change and
alter the function of this part of the aura by working on the
meridians or chakras. Connected to the Root chakra.
The third body is the Emotional body. The emotional
body is egg shaped and contains the other two. All the emotions
we feel are reflected here, happiness, hope, love, anger, sorrow,
hate, etc. The emotional body also houses a connection to our
past which means it can hold onto memories, wishes, desires
and bad feelings that have gone before and therefore cause us
problems. It is important to learn how to handle different emotions
otherwise they may become suppressed and be stored in the emotional
body, where they may be the cause of later blockages and disturbances
leading to medical problems. Connected to the Navel chakra.
The Mental body's function is to teach us self
knowledge. The mental body as it's name implies reflects the
conscious mind, logic, intellect and active thinking.
Our mind shapes our reality, it reflects our ability to learn.
It controls our personality. Mental heath or mental illness
is reflected in this level. Connected to the Solar Plexus Chakra
The Astral body.
Unconditional love. Connected to the Heart chakra. The astral
aura is the bridge between the physical world and the spiritual
realm.
The Etheric Template body (divine will) can be identified with
memory and our thought processes. Here all our memories, forgotten,
remembered or pushed away, are mirrored. The Etheric Template
also stores the present and all the possible futures. Connected
to the Throat chakra.
The Celestial body mirrors the subconscious mind
that is a part of the inactive part of our brain. By listening
to your subconscious, your intuition, you can make your journey
through life more simple and rewarding. Consciousness expresses
itself as universal love for all life. A connection to the higher
self. Connected to the Third eye chakra.
The Causal body (Ketheric Template) is the last
body. The energies in this body spin with a very high frequency.
This is where the soul communicates with the conscious mind
via the subconscious mind in the mental body. This body connects
to the higher spiritual realms. Here consciousness is expressed
in higher concepts of knowing or beliefs. This is where the
initial creative impulse begins; the all seeing, all knowing.

How
to See Auras
(©
Brenda Diskin 2002)
We are only going to touch briefly on this subject as the keyword
here is 'practise'. The more you practise the better you will
get.
An aura, according to New Age metaphysics, is a coloured outline,
or set of contiguous outlines, allegedly emanating from the
surface of an object. Everything has an aura animate, inanimate,
living or otherwise. The aura supposedly reflects a supernatural
energy field or life force that permeates all things. Human
auras allegedly emerge from the chakras. Under ordinary circumstances,
auras are only visible to certain people with special psychic
power. However, with a little bit of training, anyone can see
auras. Blue and red are the brightest and easiest colours to
see. You need to learn how to focus your eyes in a special way.
Young children see auras much easier, because their central
vision is not yet damaged. Once they go to school they are told
to use their vision in a certain way, and gradually they lose
their natural auric sight.
It may take a while for
you to start to see auras but the best thing to do is persevere.
A good place to start is outdoors, beginning with trees or plants.
Look at the top of a tree
with the sky as a background and slightly close your eyes. Look
just a little past the branches or leaves of the tree or plant.
Let your eyes go a little out of focus, just relax and don't
try too hard.
You will see a glowing, flickering halo moving in and out from
the plant or tree.
Alternatively you can try
this exercise; it may take several attempts before you see an
aura:
You need to be sat in a soft but not dim light.
Your eyes need to be unfocused, similar to when you are daydreaming.
Do not stare too hard or your eyes will become sore and start
to water or want to close.
Place a pot plant with good foliage on a table a couple of feet
away from you. Sit quietly and gaze at a point a little to the
side of the plant and just past it. Do not focus on anything.
Try to stay relaxed and not concentrate too hard. After a while
you will see a slight orange/red hue emanating from the leaves.
You will also see a shimmering affect around the plant similar
to dancing lights. This shimmering is the plants aura.
Once you have accomplished this and feel comfortable with it
you can try to see the aura of birds flying slowly in the sky
or sitting on a telephone wire.
You can then move on to
trying to see auras around objects, animals and people. Don't
panic if it takes you a while for this to happen. Some people
are better at this than others.
There are many other ways of seeing auras. These are just easy,
first steps.
Feeling Chi
(Ki) Energy or Feeling Auras
Sit comfortably with your
back straight. Raise your hands to shoulder level, elbows bent,
palms facing each other, shoulder width apart.
Move your hands slowly towards each other so that the palms
are almost touching but not quite; then move them slowly apart
again until back level with your shoulders.
Make a note of what you feel from this exercise.
Most people feel some kind
of resistance, like a magnet, either while the hands are moving
together or when they are moving apart.
You can try this exercise
with a friend, moving one of your hands towards one of theirs
and then moving them apart again.
The resistance you feel are the auras around yours and your
friend's bodies.
Sometimes you will feel
uncomfortable when certain people get too close to you this
is because they are entering your aura or, if you prefer, your
personal space.
Some people have denser
or wider auras than others.
Learning
How to Protect Yourself
It is very important that
you learn how to do this if you are going to embark on any kind
of psychic or spiritual work or practices.
There are many ways to protect yourself you don't necessarily
have to go through any long drawn out exercises, although you
can do so if you wish.
It is sufficient, and much easier for the beginner, to:
A) Surround yourself in a white or golden light to keep negative
energies, feelings or illnesses out.
B) See yourself in a big protective bubble that only good energies
can enter, bad energies will be kept out.
C) Draw a protective circle around you using a finger, crystal,
wand or other pointed object.
D) Ask God or whatever deity you believe in to guide and protect
you.
Use any of these singly
or a combination of any of them, whatever you feel is right
for you.
You should use some form of protection every time you are likely
to come into contact with negativity of any kind. Certainly
make sure that you protect yourself at least every couple of
days.
Opening
Up
I do not feel that opening
up is the most important exercise, as everyone tends to open
up automatically when they begin any period of psychic or spiritual
work.
For those of you who need to feel that you have done something
to raise your consciousness perform this exercise.
You may like to record it onto tape for ease of use.
Visualise, or imagine, a
ball of white light circling around your feet. Connecting your
feet with the earth beneath them grounding you so that you do
not 'float off' when your consciousness is raised.
The ball of white light
travels up your legs to your base or root chakra, which is coloured
red. It picks up the colour red from the base/root chakra opening
up this chakra as it does so.
The ball of light then travels
up to the navel or sacral chakra, which is coloured orange;
it picks up the colour orange from this centre and opens the
chakra.
The ball of light ascends
to the solar plexus, which is coloured yellow. It picks up the
colour yellow from this chakra and opens the solar plexus as
it does so.
The ever-growing ball of
light moves up to the heart centre, which is coloured green.
It picks up the colour from this centre opening the chakra before
moving up to the throat.
The throat chakra is coloured
blue. The blue joins with the ball of light and the chakra opens
up.
The now glowing ball of
light moves up to the brow/third eye chakra which is represented
by the colour indigo a beautiful deep blue/mauve. The colours
blend together and the chakra opens up.
The huge ball of now pulsating
light moves up to the crown chakra, which is coloured violet.
The chakra opens up and something fantastic happens. The huge
ball of now pulsating light moves up to the crown
chakra, which is coloured violet. The chakra opens up and
something fantastic happens.
The ball of light starts
to spin really fast and glows the most brilliant opalescent
white as it circles above your head.
There is a flash and the light cascades down surrounding you
whole body in a wonderful protective glow.
You are now fully open and
ready to work on a psychic or spiritual level.
Closing
Down
I believe this to be the
most important exercise of all. If you do not close yourself
down properly you leave yourself susceptible to other peoples
feelings, illnesses, thoughts and deeds.
There are several ways of closing down. The main thing is to
find the way that is suitable for you.
1) You can, of course, perform the opening up exercise in reverse
but keeping your feet grounded as the light disappears back
into the earth beneath your feet.
2) You can perform any of the protection exercises.
3) You can concentrate on each Chakra in turn, starting with
the crown chakra, and close them down or switch them off in
any of the following ways:
i) Turn each one off like a light switch
ii) Close each one like petals of some flowers close up at night.
iii) See each one as a little door with a lock and key, so that
when you close the door and turn the key the chakra is closed
down.
4) You can also, zip yourself
up.
5) Cover yourself with a protective cloak.
6) Climb into a sleeping bag.
7) Take a purifying, protecting or salt bath.
8) Surround yourself with a white or gold protective light.
9) Draw a circle around yourself using your finger or a crystal.
10) Any method of your own choice that works for you.
The most important thing
is that whatever method you choose, it must work for you and
if it doesn't try something else until you find the method that
does work for you.
Creating Your
Sacred Space
It is important that we all have a place
that we can 'escape' to. A place where we can go to forget about
the toils and troubles of everyday life. For many this place
is a holiday location for two weeks or so each year.
Try to set aside a room or a space for yourself somewhere quiet
in your home. Somewhere where you can go to be alone to think,
relax or meditate. If you have nowhere you can create your space
then all is not lost - there is an alternative.
Pick a time of day when you won't be disturbed. Put on some
soft music and sit in a comfortable chair.
Close your eyes and think of a place where you feel safe and
happy. It can be anywhere, outdoors or in; the seaside, the
country, even your own sitting room. The most important thing
is that it is somewhere you feel completely safe and calm.
Imagine yourself in this place; see it in your mind. See the
surroundings, the colours. Use all your senses to really associate
with 'your place'. Make yourself familiar with every little
detail.
Practise going to your 'sacred space' in this way every day
until you can get there by just closing your eyes.
Use your 'sacred space when you need to escape from the problems
of the day or when you need to regain energy.
Intuition
and Psychic Ability
Many people 'pick up' on a psychic level
without even realising it.
How many times have you been talking to someone when a thought
pops into your head and the very thing you thought about happens?
How many times have you thought about someone and they phone
or write you?
Sometimes you think that something is going to happen and it
does. Or you think that you have seen someone or visited a place
before. Many times we put this down to intuition or imagination
but is it really psychic ability?
What is the difference
between Mediumship and Psychic Ability?
Basically, Mediumship is a higher altered
state of consciousness which enables the medium to tune into,
and communicate with, the spirit world.
A psychic is able to tune into the person on an earthly level
and pick up on what is going on, and has gone on, around them.
